Independent Arbitrator, Mediator and Adviser; former Partner of Jones Day, Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ Bank), Group General Counsel and Company Secretary, Managing Director for Europe and America and Group General Manager, Governance, Partner and Managing Partner of Allen Allen and Hemsley, (now Allens). 

In a career spanning over forty years Tim L’Estrange represented companies, boards and directors in some of the highest profile “bet the company” corporate legal disputes and regulatory investigations. They invariably had a potential to severely impact a company or an individual’s reputation.

He has held senior executive positions in law and banking in Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia. He has been Managing Partner of one of Australia’s leading law firms and the Partner-in-Charge of two offices of global law firm Jones Day, Sydney and then Melbourne. 

In 2003, Tim joined ANZ Banking Group as Group General Counsel and Company Secretary becoming Managing Director for Europe and America in 2007 and was appointed as Group General Manager, Governance in 2010. In addition to having P&L responsibility when based in London, he worked closely with Institutional and Functional heads of the bank and liaised closely with global regulators, particularly in the US and UK. His broad in-house experience gives him a unique perspective in understanding the operation and culture of global financial corporations and the expectations of regulators

In private practice he acted for global and local banks in a wide variety of banking and financial services matters, and in more recent years acted for executives and the Board in respect of sensitive regulatory and contentious matters in the USA, Asia, India and Europe.

Tim has a keen interest in the duties of directors, particularly as they pertain to a board oversight of non-financial risk. He recently delivered a lecture at Hong Kong University on the topic "Global Markets: Non-Financial Risks and the Role of the Company’s Board and Expectations of Regulators and other Stakeholders.”

Tim graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Financial Management) and Bachelor of Laws. Upon graduation he clerked for Justice John S. Lockhart, a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia.
