Josh is a partner with McCann FitzGerald LLP, a leading law firm in Ireland. Josh practices Irish law and specialises in Financial Services Regulation and FinTech. He has wide experience advising financial services providers and other clients on regulatory and FinTech matters, including banking, payment services and electronic money services, authorisation and compliance issues, regulatory investigations, remediation and redress projects, anti-money laundering and consumer/SME finance.

Josh is an officer of the Banking & Financial Law Committee of the International Bar Association. As co-chair of the host committee, he helped to organise the IBA’s 39th International Financial Law Conference (May 2024) in Dublin. This was a prestigious event with over 300 international lawyers and a keynote address by the Minister for Finance. Josh chaired a panel on the “Individual accountability for directors and managers in banks and other financial institutions”, which included speakers from the Central Bank of Ireland.

In November 2024, Josh was appointed by the World Bank to collaborate on the B-Ready 2025 project as Ireland expert on the topic of Financial Services – Electronic Payments for Ireland. Josh has a deep involvement in the Irish financial services regulatory sector. Josh is on the Governing Council of the Fintech & Payments Association of Ireland, an affiliate of the Banking & Payments Federation of Ireland; he co-chairs its Regulatory Insights Group and Crypto Working Group, in which capacity, he attends regular meetings with the Central Bank of Ireland. Josh is a member of Blockchain Ireland. Over 2024, he provided legal input on an Irish Funds Digital Asset Project Group’s examination of the tokenisation of financial instruments, including detailed discussions with the Central Bank of Ireland. Josh is member of the Institute of Banking (Ireland) and of the Irish Debt Securities Association.

Josh has experience working as an in-house lawyer at an international bank and in the Irish Government Department of Finance.
