Jean Messinesi was elected President of the Paris commercial court in October 2015. He took office in January 2016. His tenure as president ended on January 22nd 2019. Before that, he had served for ten years as a judge, handling commercial litigations as well as bankruptcies. During his years as president, he was instrumental in expanding the role of the international court within the Paris commercial court.
Currently, Jean Messinesi consults on cross border commercial disputes. He is also on the board of Banque Internationale Arabe de Tunisie (BIAT) the largest private commercial bank in Tunisia.
In 1970, he started his professional life as an economist with the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC. Six years later he returned to France, his home country, where after two years with the International Chamber of Commerce as economic director, he worked for international banks, specializing in project and commodity trade finance. Jean Messinesi has had a long and close relationship with the Arab world and especially the Maghreb countries. At the time of his retirement in 2015, he was the HSBC Senior Advisor for Maghreb countries.
Jean Messinesi holds a BA in law from Paris University (Panthéon Assas) and a Master in Public Administration from the Paris Institut d’Etudes Politiques (Sciences-Po)
