Alex's expertise lies in the area of international commercial arbitration and complex cross-border disputes in a wide range of sectors. He is consistently ranked in the leading legal directories as one of 3 first tier leading individuals in Australia with expertise in Arbitration and is nominated as a leading individual both globally and within the Asia region.
He has particular experience of construction, engineering and infrastructure projects both onshore and offshore, commodities, mining and resources disputes as well as advising on investment treaty arbitrations. Arbitrations he is involved in typically include references under the ICC, CIETAC, ACICA, LCIA, and ad hoc arbitrations under the UNICTRAL Rules.
Alex is a legal advisor to and member of the Australian Delegation to the UNICTRAL Working Group on Arbitration and Conciliation, currently reviewing the UNICTRAL Arbitration Rules in the context of Investor-State Arbitration. Alex also has extensive experience in conducting cross-border litigation in jurisdictions other than Australia.
He is a Vice President and Fellow of the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration, and a co-author of the Australian chapter for World Arbitration Reporter. In addition to his work as counsel, Alex sits regularly as chairman, sole arbitrator and co-arbitrator in institutional and ad hoc arbitrations under the ICC, LCIA and UNICTRAL Rules. He is also a member of the Emergency Panel and Regular Panel of Arbitrators of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre Institute and the China Maritime Arbitration Commission.
